It is a very easy to overdo the set up changes and end up with a banana slice or a smothered hook. I can work the ball in either direction but as a 15 handicapper obviously consistency is still an issue. They are more responsive to changes in set up allowing me to keep the ball low when the wind gets too strong. The short irons are very good giving a soft feel which enhances my touch round the greens. They are not as forgiving as the Edge CFTs but are no where near as penal as the blades. What a difference!! The mid irons are much easier to hit but still give excellent feedback. Then a set of brand new FTXs became available. The scoring clubs (8,9 and wedge) were fine but the long and mid irons were too unforgiving. I was not quite good enough to hit then consistently. Well it was a case of hope over experience. So I purchased a set of Hogan Apex blades (1998 vintage). This may be fine for sunny Florida but not much good for an exposed course in England where the wind is a constant factor. Before getting these clubs I was using Hogan Edge CFTs which I was very satisfied with except that they hit the ball too high for my liking.
